2020 was a whirlwind of a year to say the least; between the pandemic and the wildfires and the election, I think it’s safe to say, that we’re all desperate to escape reality for a bit. And there’s no better escape than CHRISTMAS! Yes. Christmas, the most wonderful time of the year; the world slows down, people are a little bit kinder, and everything is beautiful and magical. At the Wong house, we’re crazy about Christmas. In fact, the moment Home Goods started stocking the shelves with Christmas decorations, Sadie and I were there faster than you can say elf on a shelf. Christmas decorations is one of our favorite Christmas traditions, because the moment we put up our tree, change our sheets, and put up the stockings lets the kids know that Christmas is coming and it gets them really excited! Today I am sharing with you my rustic Christmas decorations DIY!

Our home has a lot of natural wood and we love animals, so even though we add new pieces every year, our overall theme always remains the same: rustic farmhouse. This year, we’ve added a few affordable Christmas decorations from our favorite stores and I wanted to share it with you guys!

Home Goods

We LOVE  going to HomeGoods because they have everything there; kitchenware, furniture, home decor, etc. It’s one of my favorite places to shop, because I always find the cutest and most rustic decorations such as a Christmas sled, a vintage poster of a red truck with Santa riding on it, a little light-up the village, deer pillows, picture frames, candles, snow globes, ornaments, and Christmas throw blankets. We love decor that lights up or has music because it brings the kids so much joy. Remember that if you go, to make sure you go early, because all the cute stuff flies off the shelf super fast.

Target

When looking for affordable decorations you can’t go wrong with Target particularly the dollar section. We always end up finding different little trees to compliment our other decor. This year we scored some super cute Christmas pillows for under $10 for the kid’s room as well as some wooden trees to go with our rustic Christmas decor theme. If you also have a rustic theme, Magnolia has super cute dinnerware and jars.

Amazon

Who’s not addicted to amazon? You can literally find anything here. This year since we’re sticking to our rustic Christmas theme, I decided to add our favorite Christmas design: red buffalo plaid! We love this print. For some reason when we see this print we always think of Christmas. So this year I bought duvet covers from amazon basic in red buffalo plaid, for under $30! It really cranked the Christmas spirit up in all of our bedrooms because our beds look super cozy and Christmas-y, as opposed to our usual white bedding! And because we’re extra and crazy, we also purchased red buffalo plaid pajamas to match.

The Tree

Last but not least, our tree. Before I got married, my family and I used to always have a fake Christmas tree. It never occurred to us to have a real tree because it was never a thing for us. But after getting married to Doug, he introduced me to a real Christmas tree, and now I can’t ever go back again. I love the smell of the Christmas tree…the scent of the Christmas tree and wreath wafting through our whole house adds an extra element of Christmas cheer right as we walk through the door. This year we got a 6ft tall noble fir. We love nobles because they’re super fragrant and we love the way the branches look. We get our Ornaments from target. We have had the same red and gold ornaments (Plastic) we bought ever since Sadie was born. Definitely want the ornaments that are unbreakable!
