BACK-TO-SCHOOL CHECKLIST FOR PARENTS

As the beginning of school is coming near, I thought it would be good to write a post about the back-to-school checklist for parents to make going back to school as smooth as possible. Here are some of the reminders for you before your kids back to school.

1. Schedule Eye Exam

Those little eyes have spent a lot of time on gadgets and TV, so it’s time to make sure they are ready to focus on school.

2. Dental check-up

Your child’s dental health is one of the most important pillars of their overall health. So a routine dental check-up is a must!

3. Doctor check-up

It is a requirement for kids to get a physical and vaccination before attending school. Make sure to schedule your kid’s check-up.

4. School Supplies

One of my favorite things as a kid is shopping for school supplies. So how can I forget them in my back-to-school checklist? There’s nothing more than setting the tone for an amazing school year with new shoes, stationery, pencils, and notebooks. Make sure to check out my back-to-school shopping and essentials for more inspiration.

5. School Routines

Getting back on the school routine can be tough, especially after not attending school for almost two years. Don’t blame yourself because we’re all trying our best to survive this pandemic. Getting our kids back on a school routine is so important. Eating dinner early, packing for school at night, sleeping early, adjusting screen time, waking up, brushing teeth, etc. Make sure to check out my school routine post (subscribe for a free-kid daily routine chart).

6. Label all items (clothes, lunchboxes, water bottles, backpack)

labelmaker

Yes…Label everything! I love this label maker. I’ve been using it ever since I had Sadie. Get this now so you can start labeling everything your kids take to school. It makes your life easy and also sets an example for your kids to make them organized.

7. Sports and After School Programs

If you haven’t signed up for sports and afterschool programs, this is a good time to start planning. Since most of our kids get free around 2:30-3:00 pm, but working parents won’t be free by then, so it’ll be good to schedule some after-school programs for your kids to utilize their after-school time effectively.

8. Groom-Time (Haircuts, nails, etc.)

Groom your kids is one of the most important items on my back-to-school checklist. Since the pandemic, we’ve all learned a skill or two. Now that we have our private barber at home (dad) and manicurist (mom), so don’t forget to get a fresh cut before school starts!

9. Meal planning (snacks, breakfast, lunch)

Creating a meal plan for the school is a must! This will keep you organized and will make life a whole lot easier. I like to create a month’s worth of meal plans, so I know exactly what to make for breakfast, lunch, and snacks. The key is to keep it simple and don’t worry too much about being creative. My goal is health!

10. Family calendar

This one is a big one because since we’re all a little rusty from school it’s important to have a family calendar so make sure you have a drop-off and pick-up schedule. Especially for those minimum days and after-school programs. Hey moms, you’re not alone…let dad know what he’s in charge of and what he can do to help. This will make life a lot easier I promise! I personally love using google calendar.

11. School requirement, checklist, and calendar

There are tons of stuff you need to turn in before your kids can go to school. Remember to get that back-to-school checklist done including doctor forms, tuitions, etc. There are also tons of holidays, the minimum day you have to markdown. Don’t want to be that mom that forgets it was a minimum day and be late to pick up your kids (🙋🏻‍♀️ guilty).

12. Car organization

car organization

This one is big for me…since my car is a mess right now after all those trips it is crucial to keep the car clean, washed, and organized. I keep my car super prep for school. So my back-to-school checklist for the car includes things like diapers, wet wipes, hand sanitizer, snacks, water bottles, socks, extra clothing, sunblock, and extra masks.

13. One big House cleaning!

This will be a good time to declutter some of the kids’ toys and clothes. Since we’re getting back in school it’s good to take out clothes, they longer fit to make room. For moms, cleaning out the pantry and fridge will be key. This will make meal prepping so much easier.

Now let’s take a deep breath…I wish everyone a smooth and successful school year. We got through this tough time and it’s only going up from now. Make sure to take care of yourself…I know there’s never enough time…but trust me you have time. Carve out 10 mins of your day to do something you love…anything…..a walk, mediation, take a nap, sit on the couch, etc. It’s rough and you’re not alone. We’re all going through this together. I hope I can help in just a little bit to help make your life a little easier. This back-to-school checklist is made to make your life a little easier. Moms, you’re the best! Keep up the good work!

Cheers to 2021!

Love,

Tiffany
