Happy Birthday, dad! You would’ve been 69 years old today if you were still living on this earth. Today is not about grieving…today is about celebrating your life and how much you’ve inspired me.
A little family history. My dad passed away on April 17, 2001, when he was just 47 years old – I was only 20 years old. I still remember the day like it was yesterday. My dad passed away from a heart attack. “Heart disease is the leading cause of death for men and women in the United States. About 655,000 Americans die from heart disease each year.” Heathline
Ever since his passing, I promised myself that I would take care of my family and never let history repeat itself. I know my dad is not physically with us today, but this journey of starting this blog and Youtube channel is all inspired by him. He’s the main reason I hopped on this journey of promoting how to live a healthy lifestyle.
Living a healthy lifestyle doesn’t mean you’re eating salads every day and exercising on a daily. Living a healthy life is about balance and living the best life possible. It’s about not taking each day for granted and making the most out of it. It’s about being mindful of what you put into your body, but also being OK with splurging once in a while. Sometimes health gets such a bad rap, you don’t have to eat salads every day to be healthy. It’s about how to be creative and make these gorgeous vegetables delicious.
Doug was never a healthy person. Ever since we met he started making changes in his life towards a healthier lifestyle. He hated eating vegetables and would binge on meat…and just meat. Now he’s not only living for himself but for his kids. He now drinks green smoothies, takes detox shots, cooks delicious vegetables, goes on 5-mile runs, and even pushes me to lift weights with him. I can say he’s my success story and he has changed his lifestyle to a healthier lifestyle.
Health and time are at the core of our very existence. When you distill life down to what matters you’ll find that it’s very simple – you can always make more money, but you can never have enough time. Time to chase your dreams. Time to discover who you are. Time spent with loved ones. Life flashes in a blink of an eye, and living a healthy and active lifestyle is the only way we can ensure that our time on earth is well spent.
My mission at Roots & Knuckles is to empower women to love themselves and to live life to the fullest. To make small steps towards greater health. To be present and cherish every moment, To embrace life and its challenges, but most importantly, to have fun doing it!
I promise I’ll share all my knowledge and how I live my best life with a healthier lifestyle. Thank you so much for being here and taking the time to read this. So happy to finally do what I love and share what I’m so passionate about. Thank you dad for everything you’ve taught me and given me…Happy Birthday!
