So, we know that among all the house chores, laundry is the least popular. The most hated part about laundry is… Umm… the WHOLE process!
Whether it be the least favorite washing, folding, or the most hated part that is putting everything away. I haven’t had a problem with laundry ever since I had kids. I never knew laundry could be a real never-ending story! Now my laundry consists of 5 people and 3 of those are little people with double the laundry because they’re so messy… In fact, I felt like I’m constantly washing their clothes and I am never done with the laundry.
So the one thing I had to master is how to beat the laundry game. I had to do something of the piles and piles of clean laundry around and dreading to fold and put them away. Or constantly looking for the kids’ clothes in the basket because mommy is late on putting the laundry away. Ok…that was the old me…But the new me is a laundry genie, and let me share with you the top 5 laundry hacks to make you one too… And you will notice that you have clean laundry every time!
#1 ESTABLISHING A ROUTINE
The most important of all the laundry hacks is to establish a routine. I tried doing the laundry once a week. But it was just too much to handle especially with a family size like mine. So the best routine I’ve established is doing laundry 3 times a week (Monday, Wednesday, and Friday). Doing it more often means fewer clothes to fold and put away. I’ve blocked out time on my google calendar to remind me to do laundry on those days. Plus, since the kids are always spilling food on the clothes, this will keep the mold away.
#2 MAKE IT A FAMILY AFFAIR
One of the best and most fun laundry hacks is to make it a family affair. After I’m done washing and drying the clothes. My kids are in charge of sorting all the clothes into the different baskets. I always make it fun and put on music while we’re doing it. (My way of tricking them to do laundry). This is also great for the kids since they get to match socks and divide their own clothes.
#3 KEEP YOUR LAUNDRY ROOM ORGANIZED AND EFFICIENT
Since laundry is not everyone’s favorite chore, here’s a way to love it. The way to trick our brain into wanting to do it is by making your laundry room a desirable place to be. One of the best laundry room hacks is to make your room smell nice, organized, and clean. Keep your products organized and tools on hand to make your laundry experience more desirable.
#4 COMMIT TO PUTTING YOUR LAUNDRY AWAY RIGHT AWAY
Ok…let’s be honest if you don’t put away your laundry every time, you’re done with it…sometimes it’ll be in the basket for a week or two. So, making a commitment of putting it away right away and just get it over with is better than giving yourself an excuse to do it later…and that later means…way later. You’ll feel so good when all the laundry is done…and not staring back at you every time you walk by the basket.
#5 DON’T OVERCROWD YOUR CLOSET
When you have too many clothes in your dresser and your kid’s closet, you’re more likely to hate putting away your clothes. Do a quarterly decluttering and keep your closet light and organized. Lesser clothes mean lesser clothes to wash and less is always more! Trust me, minimalism is going to be the new Normal!
