Homemade Chicken Essence Recipe

Thinking of strengthening your immune system? Need to increase your milk supply? Or are you looking for postpartum soup recipes? Well, today I want to share an all-rounder secret soup recipe that I drink weekly to nourish my body and strengthen my immune system, i.e., Chicken Essence!

This soup is so easy to make, and needs just 4 ingredients! Whether you want nourishment, want to build a stronger body, or get your body prepared for pregnancy or postpartum, this soup is great for you! In my personal experience, this soup is great for both pre-and post-partum! To be honest, I live by this soup!

Soup in my culture is one of the most important things to consume! As we believe soup cures everything! I used to laugh at this, because whenever I told my mom

Mom, I’m not feeling well…my mom would say drink some soup.

Mom, I’m tired…drink some soup.

Mom my muscles are sore…drink some soup.

Yes, so you get the point. Soup cures everything! So, it wasn’t until Doug and I were trying to conceive, I believed in chicken soup and its benefits. Chicken soup is very nourishing for our bodies.

Whether you believe in drinking soup or not, soup dates back to thousands of years ago as far as back to (20,000 BC ) Yes, you have read it right.

I made a lot of chicken soup when I was trying to conceive for the first time and also in my post-partum. In my culture it is believed, you have one month of the recovery period after the delivery, where your body is vulnerable, and thus needs the most nourishment. Especially after having my first, second, and third baby, I truly believe it’s this chicken essence that made my body stronger than before.

Okay another thing, in these times of pandemic, chicken essence can be beneficial more than you think! A study published in CHEST focused on how chicken essence soup is beneficial if you are tested positive for COVID as it helps in building immunity, has anti-inflammatory properties, and also helps in reducing the intensity of symptoms as cold, flu, body pains, running nose, etc.

Chicken essence is basically steaming the chicken with red date, goji berry, and ginger for 4 hours. Pressure all the goodness from the chicken, red date, and goji berry into this bowl of soup.

What is chicken Essence?

Chicken Essence is an extract from a chicken. Basically, all the goodness of a chicken is steamed at high pressure and extracted into a bowl. The extract is extremely nutritious.

Who can drink this?

Any adult or kid can have this! My kids love soup! Also, it is a great pre & post-pregnancy food. Doug and I have this chicken essence once / twice a week. After having it we definitely feel a difference in our bodies.

When should you drink this?

I usually drink this in the morning on an empty stomach. But anytime is good!

Ingredients

  • 1 free-range chicken /black chicken
  • 3 tbsp Goji berry
  • 4 pitted red date
  • 2 slices ginger

Equipment

  • Large porcelain pot
  • Electric slow cooker
  • Bowl

Now let’s find out how to make Homemade chicken essence?

Instructions

  • Take a porcelain pot, put the bowl upside down into the pot.
  • Then put the chicken butt down on top of the bowl inside the porcelain pot.
  • Now put all the ingredients: red date, goji berries, and ginger.
  • Cover the porcelain pot and put the porcelain pot into the electric slow cooker.
  • Pour water into the electric slow cooker
  • Set timer to double boil for 4 hours
  • After 4 hours, open the lid and carefully take out the chicken.
  • The essence of the chicken and all the ingredients should be on the bottom of the chicken where the bowl is. Now pour the chicken essence into a bowl and drink it while it is hot.
